Whole Brain Alphabet

Remember when you learned the alphabet...

Here is a simple and very effective means to enhance the crosslinks between the two hemispheres of your brain.

Sing or hum the alphabet as you write it with your dominant hand and then repeat this as you write it with your other hand. While you do this the key is to find a fourpart rhythm and flow. Repeat this three times with each hand and then once more with your dominant hand - this means that you sing and write the alphabet seven times altogether.

The rhythm and flow is very important. It is one of the main reasons why singing and writing the alphabet is particularly appropriate for this exercise.

Remember when you learned the alphabet... how you learned it as ABC's or as a song? The fourpart beat in the alphabet song is highly communicative to your brain-mind and it points to the other main reason why this exercise uses the alphabet.

When you repeat this fourpart rhythm as you sing and write with one hand and then with the other, you reawaken neurological pathways that you created when you were younger. This was a time when you learned at an astonishing rate. And, since you are no longer a child, you benefit from both your adult maturity and the childlike imagination and freedom that this exercise stimulates. Thus you reactivate pathways that you may not have used for some time, and in this process you also form new crosslinks between the two hemispheres of your brain.

It takes some practice to find this rhythm; at first you may find it necessary to adjust your singing or humming to the pace of your writing. That's Ok, sing and write at the pace that is best for you - it is not about how quickly or slowly that you do this; it is the fourpart rhythm coupled with the changing hands that is essential to the effectiveness of this exercise.

The power of this simple exercise may well surprise you. You will find that it integrates many of your talents and abilities such that you see things with innocent eyes and a new brain. It is helpful to practice it regularly for the best results, and yet you can also expect some immediate results in the realm of creativity because many of your language and communication skills are founded on the alphabet.

Have fun - It is as simple as ABC.
